SUMMARY:Joint action for more permanent contracts and wage increase
DESCRIPTION:On 25th of April at 12:00 pm\, FNV and AOB will organize a protest in Amsterdam to increase pressure on employers for more permanent contracts for teachers and wage increases\, as the last round of negotiations for the new collective labor agreement (CAO) is scheduled for the 12th of May. The protest will take place at the VU University in Amsterdam\, where a petition with signatures will be handed over to the employers. The petition emphasizes the need for more permanent contracts and a decent wage increase. In addition to the trade unions\, Casual Academy\, 0.7\, and WO in action will also be present at the protest. \nThe program for the protest is as follows: \n12:00 – 12:05 pm: start of the joint action\n12:05 – 12:15 pm: update on the collective labor agreement negotiations\n12:15 – 12:25 pm: about “insecure contracts” by Casual Academy and Zero Point Seven\n12:25 – 12:35 pm: handing over of the petition “more permanent contracts + wage increase” to the employers’ delegation\n12:35 – 12:45 pm: conclusion

DESCRIPTION:Time: 13:00 – 16:00 \nLocation: Maagdenhuis\, Spui 21\, 1012 WX Amsterdam \nOn the 1st of April\, we will hold a national demonstration alongside 0.7 against casualisation in academia\, entitled ‘The Joke’s on Us.’ Today\, the current ‘industrial peace’ agreed nationally between the employers and the unions comes to an end. A new cycle of negotiations for the collective labour agreement will start on this date again. The demonstration is vital to make our demands heard and protest against the casualisation in academia. \nThis is a follow up from the university won’t love you back national day of action at Faculty of Social Sciences in Leiden that we organised together with 0.7 and WOinActie to express our repugnance with casualisation\, exploitation\, poor social safety\, and a lack of accountability in and by Dutch Universities. \nAPRIL 1 PROGRAM \n\nAt 13:00\, we will gather outside the legendary Maagdenhuis (Spui 21\, 1012 WX Amsterdam). From 13:00 until 15:00 we will have a program that includes music and testimonials\, as well as stations to take photos/share content via socials.\nFrom 15:00 until 16:00\, we will have a line up of speakers from the AOB (Tamar van Gelder\, Chairman)\, FNV (Brian Droop)\, Student Union (Jules Declerieux)\, 0.7 (Tim de Winkel) and Casual UvA (Alex Lopez)\, including an announcement of further action.\nAt 16:00\, we will gather for drinks at Schuim (Spuistraat 189\, 1012 VN Amsterdam).\n\nPlease make sure to share our poster\, share our hashtag #JokesOnUni and attend our national demonstration to make sure employers do not\, once again\, shirk their responsibilities when it comes to questions of casualisation\, workload\, accountability and social safety in the negotiations for a new collective labour agreement. \nSee you there! \nIn solidarity\, \nCasual UvA \n  \n

SUMMARY:The University Won’t Love You Back
DESCRIPTION:On the 14th of February\, we will hold a national day of action\, entitled ‘The University Won’t Love Us Back.’  This action is a follow up from the ‘Doomsday Clock’ initiative in which we participated with 0.7 and WOinActie. We gave the CvBs across the country one term to make good on their promise to address the plight of docenten in local negotiations. Unfortunately – but perhaps unsurprisingly – this did not happen. \n  \n\nThis term\, the intensification of action continues. This will be important both locally and nationally\, as on the 1st April the current ‘industrial peace’ agreed nationally between the employers and the unions comes to an end. A new cycle of negotiations for the collective labour agreement will then start again. It is therefore vital that we build up the necessary pressure in the lead up to these talks to make sure employers do not\, once again\, shirk their responsibilities when it comes to questions of casualisation\, workload\, and social safety.  \nThe first date for the agenda in this process is the 14th February. On that day\, we are participating in a national day of action\, alongside other national networks such as 0.7\, and WOinActie\, on the theme: The University Won’t Love You Back. \nPROGRAM \n– Between 9:00-11:00 There will be two live-streamed discussion\, the link could be found here: https://radbouduniversity.zoom.us/j/85748076710?pwd=a2NKTFVvVm1FeHNmeUhKRjNJSVZGdz09 . This discussion is organised by Casual Utrecht and 0.7  and will be conducted in Dutch. First\, from 9.00-10.00\, Dr Sanne Frequin will be interviewed by Dr Nike Stam about her podcast ‘Ik Vertrek’ [I am Leaving]\, and her reflections about casual work in Dutch Universities. This will be followed\, from 10.00-11.00\, with an interview of Prof. Floris Cohen\, carried out by Rens Bod and Tim de Winkel\, about his book: ‘De Ideale Universiteit’ [The Ideal University]. For those of you in Utrecht\, you can also attend these lectures in person\, here (please self test before attending): De Grote Theater Zaal\, Muntstraat 2 A (Kromme Nieuwegracht 20 en 22) – Campus – Universiteit Utrecht (uu.nl). \n– At 13.00\, we will gather for a demonstration outside the Leiden Faculty of Social Sciences (Wassenaarseweg 52\, 2333 AK Leiden) A first poster for the day is available here and below.
